The Fantasy Trip
The Fantasy Trip (TFT) has been out-of-print since the early 80’s. However, if you already own the rules and would like them in electronic format you are in luck. They are available for free at http://gettft.brainiac.com

About TFT
Just to give you an idea of the time frame: TFT was designed to compete with D&D, Runequest, Tunnels & Trolls and Chivalry & Sorcery. I enjoyed TFT so much that in the early 80’s I ran a TFT game session at GenCon called “Gorth Gilwand and the Tower of Three Wights” to introduce new players to it. I first started gaming in 1978 with a boxed version of the Original D&D (3 tiny flimsy booklets in a white cardboard box). Both TFT and D&D brought me great joy, ultimately the players and the game master are more important than the game system. But comparing TFT to other game systems it is without a doubt the greatest RPG system I have ever seen, even to this day. It is not the most complex system, but certainly the most enjoyable.
Simply reading the rules does not do TFT justice, you really to have to play it to appreciate how well the system works.
By the way, TFT is the predecessor to GURPS. So you can easily convert the monsters, spells, etc. I think TFT is a better system than GURPS, it just doesn’t have as many monsters and stuff.
